Job Description:
Economical Insurance is currently looking for either a Senior or Intermediate level Mid Market Underwriter, based on your experience level, to join our Calgary team. In this role you would be accountable for high quality underwriting of complex accounts within your area of expertise (Property,/Casualty) in accordance with Company underwriting guidelines and their level of underwriting authority as assigned.

Job Minimum Requirements:

  •     University degree in any discipline or a college diploma or the CIP designation is preferred.
  •     Minimum of  3-5 years experience underwriting Property or Casualty lines.
  •     Oil and Gas underwriting would be a great asset.

Job Duties:
  •     Assessing, accepting, and declining new business submissions.
  •     Re-underwriting and negotiating renewals, and policy endorsements.
  •     Ordering of inspections, financial reports, or other underwriting information for use in your analysis of critical risk hazards and decision making.
  •     Negotiating the terms and conditions of risk acceptance with brokers in writing, by telephone, electronic mail or in person.
  •     Providing mentoring and referral support to junior underwriters in the branch.
  •     Developing and maintaining positive broker relations.
  •     Participating in production calls on brokerage offices, as required.
  •     Accompanying brokers on field underwriting of accounts, as required.
  •     Providing technical support to brokers.
