Job Summary:
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Dietary Manager has overall responsibility for the ordering, preparation and delivery of all meals and nourishment's following specified menus and standardized recipes, in accordance with all provincial/long term care regulations and established Revera Inc. requirements.

Job Requirements:


  •     Must be a member of the Canadian Society of Nutrition Management or a registered dietitian;
  •     Must possess a Food Handler's Certificate;
  •     Must be knowledgeable of Provincial Food Premises Regulation, CACHES Accreditation Canada/ORCA, Provincial Long Term Care Facility Program manual, & OH&S Act;
  •     Proven experience in large quantity food preparation, financial planning and food purchasing;
  •     Proven supervisory experience in a unionized long term care setting;
  •     Must be knowledgeable of nutritional needs of the long-term care resident, including therapeutic, texture modified and ethnic diets;
  •     Must have strong leadership skills and proven ability to supervise and secure the co-operation of the dietary employees;
  •     Must be able to work and communicate effectively with long-term care residents and members of the multidisciplinary team;
  •     Effective written and oral communication;
  •     Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
  •     Current (within 6 months) Vulnerable Position/Sector Screening (VPS).

Expertise: Culinary

Job Duties:

  •     To prepare and/or supervise the preparation and service of all meals and nourishment's following specified menus and standardized recipes;
  •     To consult  with Dietician  and create  specialized menus/allergy menus;
  •     To assist the Administrator/Executive Director to ensure that the facility-wide inter-disciplinary Quality Assurance CQI Program is implemented & ongoing as well as risk management programs;
  •     To control the operational budget for the Dietary  department including adherence to food service related enhancement contracts;
  •     To  purchase, receive, store, and control all departmental supplies which may include inventory controls;
  •     To follow infection control procedures;
  •     To ensure  compliance with all provincial/long term care regulations and established Revera Inc. requirements;
  •     To co-operate with the health care team in preparation for accreditation;
  •     To work with and respond to Regulatory bodies/ Public Health;
  •     To have knowledge of Resident Bill of Rights Governing Principles and endeavor to promote it.
  •     To assist in Union matters related to grievance procedures, labour management relations, and contract negotiations;
  •     To recruit, orient, supervise, delegate tasks, and evaluate the performance of the Dietary staff.
  •     To  provide  education to dietary staff on a regular basis;
  •     To ensure Dietary staff compliance with facility policies and procedures, including safety,  sanitation and safe working practices;
  •     To encourage employee engagement via regular communication, motivation and development opportunities;
  •     To participate with the interdisciplinary team in the development and evaluation of resident care plans;
  •     To monitor and document resident's nutritional status, and council residents or family members as necessary on therapeutic diets;
  •     To maintain operational records as required. (i.e.: menus, production charts, food and refrigeration  temperatures);
  •     To chair the Resident's Dining Committee meetings and ensure satisfaction  with meals; engage Activation Manager / Residents on these needs;
  •     To work co-operatively with the health care team in preparation for accreditation;
  •     To work with and respond to Regulatory bodies/ Public Health;
  •     To know & promote Resident Bill of Rights Governing Principles;
  •     To ensure resident satisfaction & continuous quality improvement initiatives;
  •     To ensure proper usage, maintenance & supply of all kitchen related equipment;
  •     To uphold and promote the organization's values and philosophy relating particularly to ethics, morality, and integrity as set out in Revera's Code of Conduct.
