Job Duties:
Provides strategic and operational leadership to the Faculty of Medicine, the University research community and the public sector (i.e. related to contracts with government and other agencies) in the planning, organizational design and implementation of teaching resources in the Histology Core Facility and the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine.
Manages operations effectively and efficiently in order to carry out the University’s mandate for excellence in research and teaching.

Job Requirements:

  • PhD in histotechnology (with research in clinical and academic settings) or equivalent experience in a clinical or scientific research laboratory
  • Strong background and comprehensive knowledge and experience in histotechnology (i.e. histochemistry, immunohistochemistry, in-situ hybridization) with the ability to interpret and troubleshoot final results; in-depth knowledge of histopathology technology and experimental design
  • Strong background in and knowledge of laboratory management, including safety codes, legislation and regulations (e.g. fire code, occupational health and safety legislation)
  • Formal training in the risks and hazards associated with working in research laboratory environments and in laboratory biosafety, including WHIMS
  • Strong organizational skills in order to manage the various issues that arise daily; experience in project management 
  • Ability to solve varied and complex problems independently; sound judgment and strong decision-making skills
  • Excellent knowledge of the University’s internal structure; ability to negotiate and weigh the needs of numerous and varied groups and interests; ability to clearly see “the big picture” related to the organization’s goals and projects
  • Leadership qualities and supervisory abilities
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills (i.e. able to effectively communicate with a wide variety of individuals, including researchers, academic staff, support staff and personnel with outside agencies) 
  • Bilingualism – French and English (spoken and written)

Note: Temporary assignment or contract of 12 months, with possibility of renewal. Eligibility to benefits will be determined upon hiring.

This position is excluded from all union accreditation units.
