Job Description
Translates business requirements into technical network solutions by defining and supporting the roadmaps and technology architecture for the University’s network and network security infrastructure. Provides senior infrastructure architecture leadership and enterprise level consulting to develop a quality integrated and rationalized infrastructure environment.

Job Duties:
Responsible for the identification, architecture, development and implementation of secure IT solutions that support the enterprise’s business needs, identifying the most suitable infrastructure.
Provides IT solution architecture and design to ensure compliance with enterprise and security architecture directives.
Defines solutions standards and reference architectures for use by specific project teams in developing technical designs.

Reporting to the Senior Director, Infrastructure and Operations, and the Enterprise Architect, instructs, directs and reviews the work of infrastructure managers, and leads technical discussions with application development and quality assurance personnel to incorporate performance features at design, development and test stages. Work with the architecture team to ensure architecture strategy, principles and guidelines are reflected in all infrastructure projects.

Job Requirements:

  • University degree in information systems, computer science, network technology, architectural technology or a related field
  • Minimum eight years of IT strategy, and design consulting and architecture, experience supporting large scale server infrastructure systems in a multi-platform environment 
  • Expert knowledge of network infrastructures including local, metropolitan and wide areas
  • Expert knowledge of network security architecture
  • Expert knowledge of storage area networks and convergence technologies
  • Expert knowledge of server infrastructure architecture within an IT environment of multiple technologies or IT disciplines
  • Knowledge of concepts, philosophies and tools behind the design of applications, information and underlying information technologies
  • Experience in the planning and implementation of network security devices
  • Experience in either a data centre or infrastructure solution design environment
  • Experience in virtualization technologies, storage, Unix OS systems administration and Windows environments
  • Experience in designing for accessibility, scalability and availability
  • Experience in creating and maintaining good working relationships with vendors
  • Ability to apply project management methods and processes to define, plan, cost, resource, track and ensure the accomplishment of targeted goals
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts in a non-technical manner in both official languages
  • Ability to proactively keep abreast of new and emerging technologies
  • Bilingualism — English/French (spoken and written)
