Job Qualifications  
The candidate will need the following technical abilities in order to perform development tasks in LabPlus and potentially in the component architecture:

Essential Skills:

  • Fundamental understanding of laboratory systems, processes and good manufacturing practices in an analytical testing environment.
  • Experience providing IT leadership and support to an analytical team for their LIMS and core IT system needs; direct analytical laboratory bench experience is a definite asset

Other Required Skills:
  • Familiarity with configuration and programming of LIMS software.

Job Description
Under the supervision of the General Manager, Health Sciences, this position is responsible for the following:

  • To lead development, implementation and improvement activities for LIMS and core IT systems, with the goals of enhanced speed, efficiency and customer service.
  • Understand workflows and business needs; translate these opportunities into effective solutions by programming, prototyping, testing and validating LIMS modifications.
  • Validation and maintenance of data integrity and security systems for lab instrumentation to ensure 21CFR11 compliance.
  • Lab data back-up, server maintenance, perform software validation activities.
  • This position requires regular interaction with the General Manager, IT Project Manager, LIMS Coordinator, Quality Manager, Lab Managers and Subject Matter Experts to develop and implement best solutions for lab needs.

Health and Safety ? While working in lab areas, ensure that proper personal protective equipment is worn,
at a minimum safety glasses are required at all times when outside of office space.  


Technical Work ? Work with IT Project Manager and Business Analyst to understand workflows and business needs;
participate in development of optimal solutions for LIMS design and implementation, lead testing efforts
(create test cases; conduct functional and prototype testing). Prepare and deliver classroom training, develop
user guides and procedures.  Support the lab with daily IT issues related to network, backups, new instrument
installation, software validations, SLIM stability software configuration and maintenance, template and worksheet
development. Responsible to ensure data back-up and archiving is well maintained and monitored.

Business Analysis ? Gather requirements from the operating laboratories for an assigned project using interviews,
document analysis, requirement workshops, etc.  Refine business requirements to so they become unambiguous, consistent,
measurable, and complete.  Solicit feedback and recommendations on how to develop functionality to best meet the users'
 needs.  Communicate user expectations to business and technical audiences so that informed decisions can be made.

Regulatory Compliance ? Health Sciences Mississauga operates in a GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) environment;
changes to LIMS, validated instruments, software and systems need to be validated and documented. Coordinate
activities with Quality Manager to ensure that compliance is maintained throughout the process, and that final
products are validated.
