Purpose:
Manage the geotechnical and hydrogeological services teams in support of global operating sites and projects. Report related issues to senior management including site and country managers. Mentor engineers in the areas of ground support and stability as well as water related matters

Key Responsibilities:
· Identify and manage geotechnical and hydrology related risks.
· Manage and/or conduct stability and risk assessment at operating mines and projects. Conduct annual geotechnical performance reviews at select Barrick mining operations and closure sites. Assign and manage consultants and drilling contractors as required.
· Provide technical input to mine planning and design, to include data analysis of work performed by consultants or subordinates. Ensure that mine plans reflect recommended geotechnical designs and monitoring programs.
· Ensure that sites and projects adhere to the Ground Control Management Standard. Best practices and new technology are to be pursued and implemented if applicable.
· Manage and participate in related R&D and international consortiums such as the CSIRO-LOP)
· Ensure that good communication is maintained between the company’s geotechnical engineers and other industry leaders in this field. Mentoring and training of geotechnical engineers throughout the company.
· Development of strategies for improving efficiencies and reducing operational mining costs.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Education and Experience Requirements

· Engineering degree and MSc or PhD, +20 years operating and/or technical experience
· Ability to operate and/or interpret geotechnical software and instrumentation. Ability to perform simple economic analysis.

Key Competencies:
· Familiar with trends in mining processes/associated outcomes from a business/technical view.
· Strong technical background in a range of ground stability issues, water effects and balance, heap leach, dumps and tailings facilities.
· In depth knowledge of open pit mining and underground mining method, technology and best practices
· Strong interpersonal skills, an ability to communicate clearly and effectively with all levels of the organization both written and verbal.
· A team oriented player with strong leadership skills and demonstrated commitments to drilling best practices, safety and the environment.
· Be able to think strategically, demonstrate good judgment, strong organization and planning skills, with a strong commitment to safety and health excellence.
· Ability and willingness to work with people from diverse cultures is essential.

Work Environment & Physical Demands:
· Both corporate office and site work environments

Physical Demands:
· Sit for long periods operating a computer.
· Travel frequently in small aircraft
· Climb stairs
· Lift 15kg from floor to waist height
· Lift 15kg from waist height to overhead
· Able to function effectively in areas of high altitude
· Manoeuvre around machinery and machinery compartments
· Underground and surface areas
· Exposure to live electrical parts, chemicals, cold, heat, dust, lubricants, noise, weather, confined spaces, and height
